Joan Bogetto

August 6, 1932 — August 4, 2024

Clinton

Sarah Joan Lawson Jones Bogetto (91) of Clinton passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 12:25 AM. Born August 6, 1932, in Hanover, Indiana to Clem Lawson and Thelma Dalton Lawson Gianotti. Joan was a retired teacher with most of her teaching career at Van Duyn Elementary School. She was a member of Sugar Grove Methodist Church and Parke-Vermillion Retired Teachers Association.

Joan’s passion was definitely her career as a schoolteacher, as evidence by her 43 years of teaching in the community and she was so pleased and honored to have taught generations of families during those years. She had so many wonderful memories of the children she taught and loved to recount the stories that made her so happy all those years ago.

She also discovered a deep sense of wanderlust had been sparked after her first trip to Italy with her husband, Jim. So much so, that they made numerous trips to what is often referred to as “the most romantic place in the world: and never tired of it.

Joan was raised in the church with a strong sense of faith – taught to live by “The Golden Rule” to do unto others as you would have others do unto you and she lived her life accordingly.

In later years, she especially enjoyed attending Sugar Grove, a little country church, where she made many lasting relationships with wonderful people. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and the ability to harmonize and loved singing the old hymns.

She had a great sense of humor and was always so much fun to be around! She was so loved by all of her family, and she loved all of them dearly, in return and each one was special to her.

Her bond with her three children was beyond measure. Becky, Kenny and Lizzie loved, respected and admired her very deeply and they always knew how much she loved them.

She will be missed every day until we all meet again in Heaven, one glorious day!

She was preceded in death by her parents. Her husband Jim Bogetto, one son Kenny Jones and her brother Bob Lawson.

She is survived by two daughters: Liz Jones of Clinton, IN and Becky (Jack) Gilman of St. Clairsville, OH. Six grandchildren; Chessa Jones (Tim Naylor), Hannah Jones, Kenny Dalton (Carmen) Jones, Heather Hancock (Tony) Callese, Lacey Hancock and Ashley Hancock (Jared) Shull.
