Gene Divan, (88) of Clinton passed away at 5:20 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Providence Health Care Center.
Born August 27, 1935, in Clinton, he was the son of Roy and Erma Davis Divan and was raised by his grandmother, Mary Divan.
He graduated from Clinton High School with the Class of 1954.
On April 24, 1993, he married Marilyn Giacoletto who survives.
He started his working career with his father at Divan’s Repair Shop, then moved on to Alcan Aluminum Co. (Novelis) in Terre Haute where he retired after 36 years. Gene was known around town for his welding and at one time owned Divan's Welding Shop on N. 9th. Street.
He served 8 years in the Army Active Reserves and was honorably discharged E6 in October 1962.
Gene was a member of the Clinton Isaac Walton League, Blanford Sportsman Club, Indiana Blacksmith Association and was a 30-year member of the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department serving as chief, master fireman and instructor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Louise Divan, brother Reno Divan, sister Virginia Harris, and brother-in-law Dick Giacoletto.
Gene is survived by his wife Marilyn, son Michael Divan, daughter Marina (Bill) Wolfe, stepdaughters Debra (Tim) North, Donna (Donnie) Wollam, Alison (Norm) Sharp, stepson Doug (Darla) Lamb, grandchildren Bryant (Danielle) Wolfe, Austin (Kari) Wolfe, Nathan Divan, Jordan Sharp, Luke Sharp, Jamie (Matt) Cassidy, Chris (Amy) Howk, Rachael (Sam) Hickey, Brendon (Clint) North, Griffin Lamb, great grandchildren Cooper Wolfe, Hudson Wolfe, Brandon Wolfe, Abigail Wolfe, Lillian Wolfe, Claire Cassidy, Emmett Cassidy, Isaac Howk, Max Howk, Casper Hickey, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Robert (Merle) Giacoletto, Karen (John) Neff, Bernard (Lynette) Giacoletto, Ruby Giacoletto and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be at Giovanini Funeral Home, Friday, August 23, 5:00 to 8:00 PM
Private funeral services will be held Saturday, August 24, with Chaplain Mary Beth Mullen officiating.
Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery
