Danny Leroy Corbett

Danny Leroy Corbett (78) of Terre Haute passed away peacefully at Gibson Hospice Center on August 8, 2022.  He was born on December 22, 1943 in Mishawaka, IN to Maurice Leroy Corbett and Mary Lu Moody Corbett.  He grew up in Kewanna, IN and graduated from Kewanna High School with the class of 1962 for which he was senior class president.  Danny served as a Navy Corpman from August 1963 to August 1967 and completed tours of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded The Bronze Star, and Navy commendation medal.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from ISU in 1972.  He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 972 in Terre Haute and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1107 in Rochester, Indiana.  Danny worked for 22 years in the juvenile justice system during which time he was the director at H-Ralph in Terre Haute, director of Drumm Farm School for boys in Independence, MO, and a director at Gibault School for Boys in Terre Haute.  After leaving the juvenile justice system, he used the knowledge he gained from working carpentry with his father and had his own home repair business.  He also worked as a supervisor for Miracle Playgrounds and salesman for Saturn Cars.  Danny retired in 2015 from a position he loved working as a Vision Therapist at Judson Family Vision Care.  He enjoyed attending church with his family at Maryland Community Church.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents as well as his sisters, Sharon Sue Carlson and Michele Ann Corbett, nephew Timothy Carlson, nieces Jacque Sue Sullivan and Taylor Grace Corbett.

Danny is survived by his daughter Amanda (Steve) Judson of Terre Haute as well as his 5 grandchildren Camden, Lainey, Luke, Cadence and Cole.  He is also survived by his brother Gregory (Sharon) Corbett of North Pole, Alaska and sister Nancy Wanner of Abilene, Texas.  He is survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, a multitude of cousins, as well as 2 aunts and 1 uncle.

Danny was smiling and fun loving.  He loved to be around people and to have a good laugh.  Several of us that have had the privilege of knowing him have been able to enjoy his many stories, jokes and ‘Danny-isms’ such as ‘don’t knock it until you try it,’ ‘it’ll feel better when it quits hurting,’ and ‘I’m going to trade you off on a yellow dog and shoot the dog.’  Although he was pretty laid back, he did have quite the stubborn streak and could get a little feisty which all came straight from his mom, Mary Lu.  He greatly enjoyed fishing, never really did like hunting, and so enjoyed playing Euchre.  Danny enjoyed watching NASCAR and IU Basketball.  He really enjoyed family gatherings, family reunions and could be counted on to bring peanut butter fudge or iced pickles.  Danny had a special place in his heart for all of his siblings.  He so greatly missed his sisters, Sharon and Michele, who went on to Heaven before him.  He looked forward to, and so enjoyed, his weekly phone calls with his brother Greg and sister Nancy.  He so loved his daughter and all of his grandchildren.  He made it to every sporting event that he possibly could.  People will remember Papa Danny wheeling along with his rollator at all our local youth baseball fields, basketball games, football games, gymnastics, wrestling, and so on.  He loved pushing Cadence and Cole on the seat of his rollator wherever they went.  All 5 grandkids knew they could count on Papa Danny to have spearmint life saver candies.  They’d all sneak into his pockets or into his car for more.  They fondly remember Papa Danny always being willing to wrestle with boxed toys they were given trying to get the toys out of the boxes and loved playing board games with them.  The grandkids loved the rope swing in front of his house, and he would always watch them play on it.

We are so very sad that Papa Danny is no longer with us but so very happy that he is in Heaven with Our Wonderful Heavenly Father and no longer in pain and has his new, wonderful body where he can walk and run through the streets of gold with all of those that went there before him.

Visitation for Danny will be from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, August 11, 2022 and will start with Military Services at 5pm at Giovanini Funeral Home, 408 Vine Street, Clinton, IN.  Services will be conducted at 7pm on Thursday the 11th with Pastor Jim Pendleton officiating.  Private interment will be at Moon Cemetery, Bruce Lake Station, Indiana.
